Dreamcatcher Run

When last we left our intrepid hero, Pazca was heading out towards the minor Night Elf city of Dolanaar.  So far, he's avoided killing anything, sold his pants (and other articles), donned powerful heirloom armor passed down from... well, from the previous characters I've had.  He also doesn't have any experience yet, and only has 8 copper coins to his name.  (But I'll get a little experience just walking down this road, because I'll "discover" new areas, and that gives experience.) Passing down the road, we see more neutral mobs (marked with yellow), which won't attack unless provoked, and finally some hostile ones (marked in red).  But the hostile creatures are off the road, and haven't noticed Pazca yet, so he's not running for his life.  He's just running.  Because that's the way to get around in WoW. Before long, I see giant walking trees, which are basically Ents, but aren't called that, because while Tolkien left a legacy w...

Starting Ahead

Well here I am again, standing with my avatar Pazca at the top of Teldrassil, the giant tree that serves as the starting area for Night Elves.  But it really just looks like a twilight forest, mostly in blues and greens. And there's the starting quest being offered right in front of me, which is... nope:  Starting quest is to kill six kitties, so I can't do that one.  OK, so it's "Night Sabers", and supposedly it's to restore the balance of nature because they've overpopulated the glen, but basically they're big kitties.  I guess it's really just so you know how to fight with your character.  But I won't be doing that anyway, so no loss. Funny story:  When I first started playing as a Druid (and got the same quest), I saw that I had one spell, "Solar Wrath", that sent a bolt of energy at a target.  I assumed I'd mostly be fighting with my weapon, and that I should "save" my spell for when I needed it, so I spent a lot ...

World of Peacecraft

I found the coolest videos last week.  It follows the journeys of a new character on World of Warcraft who goes through the world without killing anything .  Mostly he dies.  A lot.  It's kind of hilarious, and absorbingly fun to watch.  Here, check it out: I started thinking about how I'd try to level a character without killing anything. The video picks exploration, herbalism, and mining as three ways to gain experience.  But there's also some  quests that can be completed without killing.  (Can't collect ten bear-asses, 'though.)  Stealth is important for the character, since you're going to have to sneak past a lot of stuff.  Good ole' Raandyy up there picked a Rogue, but I'm thinking Druid.  Druids get the ability to sneak around too, plus they get a bunch of healing spells.  And Druids can fly.  Non-death from above!  (But seriously, being able to fly really  improves herbalism.) In fact, creating a h...
